Arts & Crafts Alterations, Suffolk

This Arts and Crafts house, designed by the celebrated architect Frank Jennings (1877 – 1949), lies at the heart of a Conservation Area. The new owners approached us for help and advice to sympathetically alter and enlarge the existing (near perfect) house, and remodel an unsightly garage into annexe accommodation. The current connection of the principal living spaces with the garden is poor, partly a result of alterations completed during the late 20th century. We looked at ways of addressing this through a loggia and landscape plan.

The house is an excellent example of its type, retaining much originality and refined arts and crafts detailing. Latterly it was the home of a former RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) President, whose alterations added a fine and understated layer of work to the house.

The project is at the concept stage and will progress to pre-application shortly.
