Our first visit to the house revealed a building untouched for many decades, but in need of structural intervention and modernisation, with dry rot working its way through floor joists and along skirtings.
The core of the house is seventeenth century, with an early nineteenth century ‘gentrified’ brick re-fronting to the entrance elevation. Located to the rear is a late nineteenth century drawing room addition. Our scheme proposed the demolition of a dilapidated lean-to and a replacement two storey kitchen and bathroom wing. Within the new wing we were able to incorporate our clients desire for a large kitchen / family room, which removed the need for the existing historically interesting, and untouched, spaces to be altered or subdivided. The roof and west gable (along with its magnificent Gothick bay window) required significant structural intervention, which was provided by The Morton Partnership. Elsewhere the accommodation was repaired, modernised, restored or left alone.
