The rear wing of this Grade II listed country house had, during the 1950’s, been remodelled to form a full-size squash court and garage. The new owners, not being squash players, required the wing to be re-thought. We worked closely with our clients and proposed removing the existing kitchen out of the front range (and returning this room to a library) and creating a new side entrance, hall, WC, boot room, study, kitchen and pantry. We also re-opened a blocked doorway to provide a link between the kitchen and the kitchen garden.
The first floor was re-ordered to form three new bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private seating area, with all the new accommodation arranged around, and accessed from, a central octagonal landing – a pleasing and a practical solution to accommodating several doorways off a narrow corridor. Historic doorways were opened up, and modern partitions removed to create a flow of family and guest bedrooms, dressing rooms and bathrooms.
This work was completed in May 2014 and we have been re-engaged over the years for various joinery detailing commissions.
